Comportamiento clínico-epidemiológico de los pacientes con leptospirosis

Abstract

Se realizó un estudio transversal, con el objetivo de determinar el comportamiento clínico-epidemiológico de los pacientes que ingresaron con diagnóstico de leptospirosis humana en los servicios clínicos y la sala de terapia intensiva del Hospital Lucía Iñiguez Landín, de Holguín, en 2008. Se estudiaron 83 pacientes, a partir de la información de los expedientes clínicos y las encuestas epidemiológicas. Se apreció que en los pacientes estudiados  la leptospirosis humana fue más frecuente en edades menores de los 40 años, sexo masculino y procedencia rural. Las profesiones con mayor riesgo de contraer la enfermedad fueron los criadores de animales y los obreros agrícolas. Los síntomas y signos más frecuentes incluyeron fiebre, cefalea, mialgias, inyección conjuntival, íctero y hepatomegalia. La insuficiencia renal aguda y la hepática fueron las complicaciones que más aparecieron.

ABSTRACT

A cross-sectional study at Lucía Íñiguez Landín Hospital, of Holguín, was carried out to know the clinical and epidemiological behavior of the patients that were admitted with Leptospirosis. The sample comprised 83 patients; the information was taken from their clinical records and epidemiological interviews. A high percentage of them were male, under 40 years of age, of rural origin. Fever, headache, myalgia, conjuctival injection, jaundice and hepatomegaly were the most frequent symptoms and physical examination findings. Renal and hepatic failures were the most frequent complications.
