Comportamiento de las infecciones respiratorias agudas altas en menores de cinco años del Distrito Lenin

Abstract

Se realizó un estudio descriptivo con el objetivo de identificar los factores epidemiológicos que influyeron en la aparición de infecciones respiratorias agudas altas en menores de cinco años en el área de salud de la Policlínica Mario Gutiérrez Ardaya, del municipio Holguín en 2008. Se estudiaron 647 niños enfermos. Para obtener información sobre los factores de riesgo se utilizó una encuesta que se aplicó a sus padres. El tipo más frecuente de infección respiratoria fue el catarro común; las condiciones de la vivienda, el hacinamiento y la convivencia con fumadores fueron los factores de riesgo con mayor presencia en los pacientes con este tipo de infección. El bajo peso al nacer resultó ser una condición importante. Se recomendó dirigir la labor a la promoción y prevención de salud, específicamente a los factores que propician de una forma u otra la aparición de enfermedades tan frecuentes como las infecciones respiratorias agudas altas en la población infantil.

ABSTRACT

A descriptive study was done to identify the different epidemiological that had influence on the acute respiratory infections in children under 5 years of age in the health area of the Lenin neighborhood of Mario Gutierrez Ardaya health area in  2008. The sample comprised 647 children. A survey was applied to the children’s parents. Some aspects were studied: type of acute respiratory infections, risk factors and birth weight. The results showed that the common flu was the most frequently infection, the conditions of the place where they live, overcrowding and living with smokers were the factors that were associated to these infections. The authors recommended carry activities for health promotion and prevention, especially on those factors that are associated to infection of the upper respiratory tract in children.
