The lack of security at the Universidad Regional Autónoma de los Andes, Tulcán campus, has a considerable impact on student safety. Elements such as insufficient lighting, lack of security cameras and limited supervision in areas near the campus have contributed to creating an unsafe environment. This circumstance is manifested in common occurrences such as thefts, attacks and harassment situations, resulting from serious deficiencies in public transportation, where students report frequent thefts and harassment, particularly during peak hours and occurring both inside and outside university facilities. The purpose of this research is to examine the effect of insecurity on the university environment and to suggest specific actions to increase student safety. To achieve this, a rigorous analysis of research and reports on this topic was developed, student surveys were conducted and data was collected on incidents occurring in adjacent areas. The University has a key role in addressing security challenges by improving infrastructure, increasing lighting, implementing surveillance cameras, and promoting awareness campaigns. In addition, it seeks to establish support programs and work closely with local authorities to ensure a rapid and effective response to incidents. This multidimensional approach is fundamental for creating a safe learning environment conducive to the integral development of students.
