Rehabilitation with hybrid prosthesis in a total edentulous patient
Abstract
Oral rehabilitation using implanted hybrid prostheses has proven to be an effective option to restore function and appearance, in totally edentulous patients with atrophic bony ridges. The aim of this research was to present the rehabilitation with hybrid prosthesis in a total edentulous patient. The case of a 74-year-old woman rehabilitated with a hybrid prosthesis, that included six implants in the upper jaw and four in the lower jaw, was presented. The findings showed a good adaptation of the prosthesis to the implants, with a remarkable improvement in mastication, phonation and facial esthetics of the patient; in addition, a beneficial effect on the quality of life and oral health was noted. It follows that the outcome of the therapy is based on a correct organization and implementation of the rehabilitation when both, biomechanical and esthetic factors, are taken into account. The clinical and prosthetic procedure performed in this case, which underlines its relevance with a holistic approach in the oral rehabilitation of edentulous patients, is here thoroughly presented.
