Interaction between periodontics and oral rehabilitation: importance of periodontal support
Abstract
This article describes the interaction between periodontics and oral rehabilitation, since the main cause of tooth loss is dental caries, in addition to poor dental hygiene; therefore, periodontics deals with the study of oral pathologies, including gingivitis and periodontitis, which should be eliminated before a treatment or rehabilitation procedure. In this aspect oral rehabilitation is mentioned, a dental discipline which allows the development and application of reconstructive alternatives and implants for patients who deserve it. When the total loss occurs, conventional rehabilitation is required, since it focuses on improving the esthetics, self-esteem and quality of life for patients through the use of instruments including resin or steel abutments and cements. The objective of the article is to describe the current state of periodontal support in oral rehabilitation, through techniques applied in patients to improve their dental esthetics. The methodology applied is descriptive, qualitative and of a systemic review type. The results and discussion highlight oral rehabilitation as an effective alternative.
