Dental implants in elderly patients with diabetes mellitus: clinical considerations and outcomes
Abstract
The current study presents the clinical considerations and results in patients diagnosed with diabetes mellitus, which main characteristic is to be a multifactorial chronic pathology that affects the largest population, among them the elderly due to genetic factors or improper eating habits, where low levels of hyperglycemia in the blood are deficient, as well as the lack of segregation of insulin substance in the blood. According to this diagnosis, it focuses on safe and effective treatments in the area of oral rehabilitation that includes the replacement of missing, fractured or lost teeth due to causes adjacent to the disease, with implants that improve the quality of life and esthetics of patients with this type of disease. The objective of the article is to describe the current state of dental practice through the use of dental implants for older adults diagnosed with diabetes mellitus. The methodology applied was a qualitative descriptive literature review.
