Evaluation of a protocol for immunomodulatory treatment of patients with rheumatoid arthritis who are cancer survivors

Abstract

Introduction: Rheumatoid arthritis is a systemic autoimmune disease that predominantly affects the diarthrodial joints and is frequently accompanied by systemic manifestations. Survival in patients with rheumatoid arthritis who present with cancer is currently a controversial topic. Given the advancement of oncospecific treatment, it is now possible to speak of patients with rheumatoid arthritis who are cancer survivors. Adequate follow- up and treatment promote a better quality of life.

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of an immunomodulatory treatment protocol for patients with rheumatoid arthritis who are cancer survivors in the province of Holguín, Cuba.

Materials and methods: A pre-experimental developmental study was conducted using a purposive, non-probability sample of 100 cancer survivors from the province of Holguín, Cuba. The methods used were observation, analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, the systems approach, and Fisher's test.

Results: A protocol for immunomodulatory treatment is proposed for patients with rheumatoid arthritis who are cancer survivors in the province of Holguín, Cuba. This protocol utilizes generative artificial intelligence and natural medicine as a novel approach. The results obtained before and after its application are presented.

Conclusions: Patients in the 51 age group were predominant, and women were female. The most prevalent risk factors were a personal history of hypertension, and smoking. It is demonstrated that the implementation of a protocol contributes to improving the quality of life of patients with rheumatoid arthritis who are cancer survivors.
