Abstract

Introduction: Dentin sealing is a fundamental dental procedure to protect exposed dentin after caries removal or cavity preparation, preventing tooth sensitivity and bacterial microleakage. Objective: To describe the role of immediate dentin sealing in current dentistry. Methods: A narrative literature review of original articles was conducted in the PubMed, Dialnet, ScienceDirect, Redalyc, and SciELO databases for the period from 2019 to 2024. The search strategy employed keywords, descriptors, and the Boolean operator (OR). Results: Of 16 articles, a total of 10 were selected that addressed the topic in relation to the immediate dentin sealing protocol, the most recommended adhesive techniques and their evolution, as well as the main biological and mechanical effects produced by this procedure.Conclusions: Knowledge of the role of immediate dentin sealing as an essential procedure in modern dentistry reflects the integration of current scientific evidence into clinical practice.Therefore, it contributes to improving the quality of dental care due to the multiple benefits this procedure provides, such as protecting against bacterial microleakage and reducing postoperative sensitivity.Furthermore, this technique stands out for its ability to improve bond strength and minimize postoperative complications.
