Importance of oral hygiene techniques and mouth rinses in patients undergoing orthodontic treatment

Maintaining proper oral hygiene is crucial for patients undergoing orthodontic treatment, as the braces make plaque removal more challenging. This study aims to describe the effect of brushing techniques and the use of mouthwashes on the oral health of patients undergoing orthodontic treatment. The current research is a qualitative literature review based on the compilation and analysis of scientific literature in databases such as PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science. The studies reviewed indicate that conventional brushing, combined with antiseptic mouth rinses, significantly improves plaque control and the prevention of periodontal diseases. However, some of them also highlight the importance of teaching proper brushing techniques to maximize benefits. Overall, it is concluded that a comprehensive approach to oral hygiene is essential to prevent complications during orthodontic treatment.
