Use of intraoral scanners in digital Dentistry

Digital dentistry has significantly transformed clinical procedures, of which intraoral scanners are central to the accurate capture of dental impressions. This research aims to describe the features of use of various commercially available intraoral scanners. Through a comprehensive and critical literature review, designed to comparatively analyse the accuracy, efficiency and clinical applications of intraoral scanners (IOSs) in digital dentistry, it allowed an organised synthesis of the current knowledge in this evolving field. The results show that while all the devices evaluated meet high standards of accuracy, there are variations in terms of speed, ease of use and ability to handle complex clinical conditions. Scanning accuracy and speed of imaging are crucial for improving treatment efficiency. The analysis highlights clinical applications, such as implant planning, restorations and orthodontics, which provide clear insight into how to optimice device choice based on specific patient needs.
