Acute myocardial infarction in Dr. Agostinho Neto Hospital of Guantánamo, Cuba
Abstract
Introduction: The morbidity and mortality profile of acute myocardial infarction is unknown at Dr. Agostinho Neto Hospital in Guantánamo.
Objective: To determine morbidity and mortality due to acute myocardial infarction type I with ST-segment elevation in the emergency center of Dr. Agostinho Neto Hospital in Guantánamo, Cuba, during the 2019 - 2023 biennium.
Method: A descriptive and retrospective study was carried out of all patients discharged with this diagnosis (n = 130). The variables age, sex, cardiovascular risk factors, anginal pain semiology, infarct location, prognostic-clinical classification, complications, thrombolytic treatment and status at discharge, were studied. A descriptive statistical analysis for each variable was performed, using a frequency distribution. Bivariate analysis of groups was applied, and the variables studied were compared with patient mortality.
Results: Most patients were 60 years of age or older (53.8%), 60.0% were men and 76.2% had a risk factor. The highest percentage presented left ventricular anterior infarction (46.2 %), grade II-c according to Forrester criteria (43.8 %), 87.7 % presented complications and 71.5 % were thrombolyzed.
Conclusions: The highest percentage of infarcted patients were 60 years of age or older, male, with arterial hypertension, suffered typical anginal pain, left ventricular anterior infarction, Forrester grade II-c and the most common complications were extrasystoles, heart failure and reinfarction; most were thrombolysed.
Keywords: acute myocardial infarction; ischemic heart disease; myocardial ischemia.Downloads
