Evaluation of the methodological alternative of physical therapeutic preparation for the ataxic patient in stage three
Abstract
Introduction: Spinocerebellar Ataxia Type 2 is a neurodegenerative disease that currently lacks a pharmacological treatment for its cure,in addition to the fact that it progresses from the prodromal phase to stage III, where there are marked physical-motor limitations that are addressed in a particular way by the rehabilitators in their area of care, with the purpose of improving their quality of life.
Objective: To evaluate the incidence of the methodological alternative on the results of quality-of-life indicators of ataxic patients in stage III.
Method: The study was carried out with a sample of 11 patients in stage III, 11 health rehabilitators and 6 physical culture teachers belonging to Mario Gutiérrez Aldaya health area of Holguín; for this purpose the historical-logical, analytical-synthetic methods, mathematical statistics, observation, interview, quality of life test, nominal group and non-parametric Wilcoxon signed rank tests were used to compare initial and final results.
Results: The improvement was significantly confirmed in the scales of the quality-of-life test after applying the methodological alternative for the preparation of rehabilitators, where a significance level of 0.05 and confidence level of 95% was used.
Conclusions: There is a statistical difference between the results of the quality-of-life test before and after the application of the methodological preparation alternative to physical culture teachers and rehabilitators, which supports its implementation.
