Estudios con células madre en periodoncia

Resumen

En los últimos años el tema de las células madres ha despertado gran interés por su potencial terapéutico en enfermedades que hasta el momento no tienen un tratamiento efectivo. La era moderna ofrece un enfoque novedoso que permite la restauración de tejidos y estructuras perdidas mediante el uso de la terapia celular regenerativa. El objetivo de este trabajo fue hacer una revisión  (en el periodo de septiembre de 2011 a junio de 2012) de la literatura, para profundizar en los estudios cubanos y del mundo sobre el uso de las células madres en Periodoncia, en los últimos seis años. Además, se solicitó a la Biblioteca de la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de Holguín, una búsqueda del tema en inglés y en español. Se incluyeron todos los artículos publicados en formato electrónico e impreso que abordaron el tema desarrollado. Aunque son pocos los estudios en cuanto al uso de células madre en humanos en la regeneración periodontal, ya se inician los primeros estudios en el tema. Cada una de las técnicas regenerativas en Odontología presenta  ventajas y desventajas y es importante saber que muchas de ellas,  son hipotéticas o se encuentran en desarrollo. La información aportada ofrece una visión general de los avances obtenidos con la terapia celular regenerativa. La aplicación de células madre adultas constituye una terapia muy esperanzadora en el tratamiento de los defectos óseos provocados por la enfermedad periodontal.

ABSTRACT

 

In the last years, the stem cells have become a known topic that has arisen a big interest for its therapeutic potential in diseases that have no an effective treatment so far. The Modern Age offers a new approach that allows the restoration of missing tissues and structures through the use of the regenerative cellular therapy. The objective of this paper is to review the existence literature in order to know more about the investigations carried out in Cuba and in the whole world regarding stem cells in Periodontics. From September 2011 to June 2012 a revision on the topic on the last six years was carried out. Besides a revision on this theme in English and Spanish was asked to the library of Holguin Medical University.  All the articles published in digital and written form that deal with this topic were included. Although, the studies about Stem Cells in human beings regarding the periodontal regeneration are few, the first steps on the topic have been done. Each of every regenerating techniques on odontology present advantages and disadvantages and it s important to know that many of them are hypothetic or in course. The given information has offered a general vision of the obtained results with the regenerative cellular therapy and although the studies related with its use in human beings in the periodontal regeneration are few; the application of stem adult cells constitutes a hopeful therapy in the treatment of bone defects provoqued by the periodontal disease.
