Resumen

El fibroma osificante es una lesión fibroósea benigna que se forma por una proliferación de tejido fibroso. Es de crecimiento lento pero constante, por lo que al mantenerse asintomático por largo período de tiempo se dificulta su diagnóstico temprano, produciendo una deformidad evidente que afecta la simetría facial. Este estudio describe un caso clínico con diagnóstico de fibroma osificante juvenil, de dos años de evolución, localizado en el maxilar, encontrado en una paciente keniana de 12 años de edad, la cual fue tratada en el servicio de Cirugía Maxilofacial del Kitui Country Referral Hospital, Kenia, donde se le realizó la extirpación quirúrgica mediante cirugía convencional. El diagnóstico temprano de esta entidad permite mantener la integridad de la mucosa oral, estructuras dentarias y la mayor cantidad de hueso posible, evitando la evolución compleja de la misma.
